Valley Center Of The Deaf Offers Support Service Providers for DeafBlind.

A group of people are on the Ability360 center rooftop. Rowing stations are set up. A woman is standing next to another woman who is sitting at a rowing machine. A woman is behind her and to the right of her assisting her with using the rowing machine. Several people are in the background.

Support Service Providers (SSP) enable our DeafBlind consumers to exercise independence and control over their daily interactions and decisions. These providers help:

  • Run errands
  • Shop for groceries
  • Attend social events

Through communication methods such as hand-over-hand (tactile) sign language, our providers orient our clients to their environment (with techniques such as ProTactile or Haptics), help them communicate with others, and relay information.

A woman wearing a black mask (Darth Vader from Star Wars) is signing with an elderly woman using tactile sign language.
A woman in the supermarket is pushing a shopping cart down the grocery aisle and wearing a blue shirt and a mask.

* During COVID-19, the partnership also offers a service to “Shop For” individuals who want to limit risk of exposure in the marketplace. VCD staff obtain the shopping list from consumers, locate and purchase the items from local stores, and deliver the purchases to the consumer.
